Computer Center for the General Public
The Charles River Public Internet Center is a community technology center that
welcomes all who need access to computers, the Internet, and training. We
provide the general public with untimed access to our 20 computers and the
Internet for a suggested donation of $1.00. Our professional staff is available
to provide free, informal assistance on an as-needed, as-available basis to any
Center patron. CRPIC is fully licensed by the Massachusetts Department of
Education and provides free one-on-one tutoring and low-cost courses. CRPIC is
an ADA compliant, handicapped accessible facility. We are open to the general
public between 12 pm and 8 pm, Monday through Thursday.
Equipment
All computers have T1 Internet access and are equipped with Microsoft Windows XP
and Microsoft Office 2003 software. There are a limited number of computers
available with open source software or Microsoft Office 2007. Assistive
technologies such as large screen, screen magnification software, and trackballs
are available upon request. Printers and scanners are accessible from all
computers. Administrative service fees are charged for printing, scanning,
copying, and other services. We recommend patrons who want to save documents or
files either bring their own flash drive or purchase one from CRPIC as the
computers do not save any information once a session has ended.
